The Department of Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and the Geophysical Exploration Center of the China Earthquake Administration (CEA) recently held a signing ceremony for a strategic cooperation agreement between both parties.
Heling WANG, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Geophysical Exploration Center of the CEA, Ming MA, Deputy Director of the Geophysical Exploration Center of the CEA, Xiaofei CHEN, Head of the Department of ESS and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and representatives from both sides attended the ceremony.
In his remarks, Xiaofei CHEN said that the Department of ESS at SUSTech aims to build an international, first-class talent training and scientific research base for earth and space sciences, and has assembled a high-level faculty team with a global perspective.
As the backbone of the deep exploration field, the Geophysical Exploration Center of the CEA has made significant contributions to the country in oil surveying and exploration, metal exploration, and earthquake preparedness and disaster mitigation.
The signing of this strategic cooperation agreement is of great significance, and Xiaofei CHEN hopes that both parties will jointly form a scientific and technological innovation team that will focus on major scientific issues, devote themselves to the promotion and application of new research methods, realize the transformation and application of scientific research results, and contribute to high-quality economic and social development.
Heling WANG noted that as a national-level team in the field of earthquake disaster risk reduction and control and deep earth exploration, the Geophysical Exploration Center of the CEA is at an advantage of having been able to accumulate massive detection data.
He added that the Department of ESS at SUSTech has cutting-edge scientific research methods and believes that both parties have strengths that will complement each other through exchanges and collaborations, and carry out in-depth cooperation in many areas such as innovative seismic exploration technologies, scientific and technological talent training, and mining of geophysical data.
The signing of the strategic cooperation agreement will build a strong alliance between the two parties. It will provide them with opportunities to explore each other’s expertise in technology, talents, and platforms, and make important contributions to improving the country’s earthquake disaster risk reduction and control capabilities.
