The students of SUSTech should be interdisciplinary talents who have the ability of understanding the world through scientific and critical-humanistic ways.

Offering humanities and social sciences programs to science and engineering students is essential for achieving that goal.

The Center for Social Sciences and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences at Southern University of Science and Technology were established in August of 2016. We aim to build a top-quality teaching and research team and develop a program of general education at the highest order of excellence. In order to enhance the humanities and social sciences at SUSTech, we cultivate outstanding innovative talents and encourage broad intellectual curiosity, emphasizing social justice and social responsibility.

The Center for Social Sciences advances undergraduate teaching and learning in the Social Sciences while supporting research throughout the university. The Institute of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary platform for cutting edge research. The Institute hosts a variety of programs including our regular Social Sciences Forum, a number of Workshops, and a Book Series. We also award outstanding scholars with Advanced Institute Research Funds. We promote scholarly exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue, building excellence throughout the university.
